UPDATE: United Airlines has just announced a groundbreaking addition for travelers in Maine: nonstop flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco from the Portland International Jetport this summer. Starting on June 27, 2024, these seasonal direct flights will operate once a week on Saturdays, marking a significant expansion of service options for the region.
The new routes will utilize the Boeing 737, which accommodates between 126 and 179 passengers, as confirmed by United’s official website. This move is a historic first for the Portland Jetport, as noted by airport director Paul Bradbury in a recent news release.
“This addition connects us with two of our top unserved markets and provides incredibly easy access to and from the West Coast during our peak tourism season,” stated Zach Sundquist, assistant airport director. The availability of these direct flights is expected to significantly boost travel convenience, offering Mainers a much-needed gateway to California’s vibrant cities.
Tickets for these highly anticipated flights will go on sale starting tomorrow, Friday, allowing travelers to plan their summer getaways immediately. Additionally, this service will expand the jetport’s offerings to include direct flights to United’s seven domestic hubs this summer, which already feature Saturday service to Houston and daily flights to major cities like Chicago, New York City, and Washington D.C.
As the tourism season approaches, these direct flights are set to enhance travel options for residents and visitors alike, making it easier than ever to explore the best of what California has to offer.
Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches, and prepare to book your tickets for this exciting new travel opportunity!
