UFC Fight Night: Zhang vs. Walker Heats Up in China Now

UPDATE: The UFC is back in China for the first time since 2019, bringing a thrilling Fight Night event headlined by Zhang Mingyang facing off against Johnny Walker at 6 a.m. ET (prelims at 3 a.m. ET) on ESPN+. This matchup is generating significant buzz as both fighters have a history of explosive finishes, and the stakes are higher than ever.

Zhang, an emerging star with three first-round knockouts in his first three UFC bouts, is on a hot streak, having not lost an MMA fight since October 2019. In stark contrast, Walker, who also started his UFC career with three first-round KOs, has faced challenges recently, holding a 4-6-1 record since then, including two knockout losses in his last outings. The odds heavily favor Zhang, who is viewed as a formidable opponent with a powerful striking game.

The co-main event features a highly anticipated clash between two top-10 featherweights, Brian Ortega and Aljamain Sterling. Both fighters are renowned for their grappling skills, with each boasting four submission victories since 2015. This matchup is expected to be a tactical battle, as Ortega looks to leverage his striking advantage against Sterling’s wrestling prowess.

In addition to the UFC action, the 2025 PFL world championships are also concluding this week, with titles on the line in the middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions, set to air at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Expert analysis from ESPN MMA analyst Din Thomas reveals: “Zhang by TKO. Walker is still too chinny for me. Zhang’s power and accuracy will spell disaster for Walker.” As for betting insights, ESPN’s betting expert Ian Parker recommends placing bets on Zhang to win at -350 and under 1.5 rounds at -325. Parker emphasizes that both fighters are known for quick finishes, making this bout one to watch closely.

Parker’s additional best bets include taking the over 4.5 rounds in the co-main event between Ortega and Sterling, predicting a strategic battle that could go the distance. He notes Ortega’s striking edge and excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills, which will be crucial in defending against Sterling’s wrestling.

As the atmosphere builds in China, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Zhang can maintain his winning streak or if Walker can pull off the upset. The implications of this fight extend beyond the octagon, potentially affecting both fighters’ careers and the landscape of the light heavyweight division.

Stay tuned for more updates as the event unfolds, and catch all the live action on ESPN+. This Fight Night promises to be a landmark event for the UFC and its fighters.
