Two Dead, Dozens Injured in Urgent Montgomery Shooting

UPDATE: A devastating shooting in downtown Montgomery, Alabama late Saturday night has left at least two people dead, including a teenager, and 12 others injured, with several victims suffering life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. CDT during a busy weekend filled with festivities, including the Alabama National Fair and HBCU Classic Weekend.

Montgomery Police Chief Graboys confirmed that the shooting unfolded amidst a large crowd, raising serious concerns about public safety. “As you can imagine, that could be a very chaotic situation,” Graboys stated, highlighting the challenge of ensuring that every weapon is accounted for and every piece of evidence is processed.

In response to this tragic event, Montgomery Mayor Steve Reed announced a total reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, adding to the existing $5,000 reward offered through the Crime Stoppers tip line. Reed expressed his heartbreak over the incident, stating, “Unfortunately, it only took one or two bad people with bad intentions to change not only their fortunes but the fortunes of many, many other innocent people.”

Authorities are actively investigating the motive behind the shooting, which appears to have targeted one individual while others were caught in the crossfire as armed bystanders drew their weapons. The tragic event has cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory weekend for thousands visiting Montgomery.

As officials continue their investigation, residents and visitors alike are urged to remain vigilant. The police are seeking any witnesses who may have information about the shooting. This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced public safety measures during large gatherings.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The community is coming together to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
