Trump Fires U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert Over Democratic Backing

BREAKING: President Donald Trump has just announced the dismissal of Erik Siebert from his position as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia late Friday night. Trump justified this surprising move by claiming Siebert received “unusually strong” support from Democratic senators, a decision that has sent shockwaves through political circles.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, shortly before midnight on October 27, 2023, Trump stated, “Today I withdrew the nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support of the two absolutely terrible, sleazebag Democrat Senators, from the Great State of Virginia.” He emphasized, “He didn’t quit, I fired him!” raising eyebrows among political commentators and supporters alike.

Siebert has been serving as an assistant U.S. attorney since 2010, and was involved in investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James, who recently won a $464 million fraud case against Trump. Tensions escalated after Siebert opted not to pursue criminal charges against James, citing insufficient evidence. This decision reportedly displeased Trump, who had previously expressed a desire to see Siebert removed.

Earlier on Friday, Trump told reporters, “I want him out,” but did not explicitly connect Siebert’s refusal to prosecute James to his dismissal. Instead, he pointed to the backing Siebert received from Virginia’s Democratic senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Trump remarked, “When I saw that he got approved by those two men, I said, pull it, because he can’t be any good,” indicating a clear shift in trust.

Political analysts are closely monitoring this development, as it underscores the ongoing tensions within Trump’s administration and the broader implications for U.S. law enforcement. The abrupt dismissal raises questions about the influence of political affiliations on judicial appointments and the potential fallout from this decision.

As this situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Trump’s next moves and whether he will nominate another candidate for the role. With the political landscape rapidly changing, this issue is set to be a hot topic in the coming days.
