URGENT UPDATE: TLC’s explosive docuseries, The Cult of the Real Housewife, has just launched, shining a critical spotlight on Mary Cosby, star of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and her controversial leadership of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. The three-part series, now streaming on HBO Max and Discovery+, delves into alarming allegations of cult-like behavior and financial exploitation from former church members.

In the series, allegations surface that after the death of Mary’s grandmother, Rosemary “Mama” Cosby, the church shifted drastically under the leadership of Mary’s step-grandfather, Robert Cosby Sr.. Critics claim this change fostered a toxic environment where fear and authoritarian control prevailed. Former church member Dan Cosby reveals, “You were just afraid to leave. People were afraid of leaving. This is detrimental to people.”

The docuseries uncovers how church leaders allegedly manipulated congregants, using guilt and scripture to coerce members into making substantial financial contributions. Dan recalls a shocking incident when former member Cameron claimed on Season 2 of RHOSLC that he took out a staggering $300,000 second mortgage on his home to give to Mary, bringing the church’s questionable financial practices into the public eye.

Additionally, Dan’s wife, Kim Cosby, recounts the emotional strain placed on members, who were often forced to choose between family and faith. “If I said I’m going to go home and cook… then I’m putting him above God,” she explains, revealing the insidious nature of the teachings that framed obedience as a loyalty test.

Despite the trauma described by the Cosby family, Dan expresses hope for healing, stating, “After 20 years… this year, 2025, and with the help of ‘The Cult of the Real Housewife’… my family — Kim, my daughters, my grandchildren — I am in their lives, and we are stronger than we’ve ever been.”

With the release of this docuseries, viewers are urged to reflect on the implications of such allegations and the impact on those involved. The conversation around cult-like dynamics in religious institutions is more critical than ever.

Watch the series now to uncover the full story and its profound human impact. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
