UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested for attempted murder following a shocking stabbing incident that left a restaurant worker hospitalized near the Santa Monica Pier. Malvin Walker, 24, was taken into custody on September 3, 2023, after authorities identified him as the assailant involved in the attack that occurred on August 31, 2023.
The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. outside a restaurant on the 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk. Police responded to reports of a stabbing and found a male victim who had been stabbed several times. He was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses revealed that the victim, an employee at Pier Pizza and Subs, was enjoying his lunch break when he was attacked from behind.
The attack took place at the top of a pedestrian staircase connecting Ocean Front Walk to Appian Way. Eyewitnesses stated there was no indication that Walker and the victim knew each other, intensifying the randomness and brutality of this assault.
After a detailed investigation, officers located Walker on the 1800 block of Ocean Front Walk, where he was arrested. In addition to attempted murder, he faces unrelated charges, including felony vandalism and a $51,000 warrant for battery. He remains in police custody, with authorities not yet releasing his booking photo.
