URGENT UPDATE: A Schererville man, Jendryk Andrews, has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including two counts of rape, following an alarming incident on August 21. Authorities report that Andrews, 25, assaulted a woman in his apartment, where he allegedly choked her and expressed remorse in text messages after the attack. He is currently held without bond, with a hearing set for September 9 that could see his bail set at $100,000.
The victim told police that Andrews physically picked her up from the bathroom and sexually assaulted her on his bed. In a chilling admission, he reportedly said, “That’s disgusting what you just made me do to you,” before displaying violent behavior by punching a wall. He later confessed to police that he “lost (himself) for a moment,” indicating a troubling state of mind during the incident.
In a separate case, Habeeb Habeeb, the owner of Cedar Lake Tobacco, Vape and Cig, has been charged with criminal confinement after allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old employee. The incident, which took place at his shop located at 13140 Wicker Ave., reportedly escalated when Habeeb, 58, became angry over the stocking of a new vape. He is accused of dragging the victim into his office and slamming her face against his desk.
While two counts of sexual battery were dismissed, the severity of the allegations remains significant. A bail hearing for Habeeb is scheduled for September 3 before Judge Aleksandra Dimitrijevic.
In a further alarming development, a Calumet City man, Daquan Howard, 25, was arrested for a hit-and-run incident in Hammond. Howard faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery and criminal recklessness. According to police reports, he attacked his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, hitting them with his car after a confrontation. Howard was released on a $6,000 bond on July 10.
