San Jose Tattoo Artist Faces Imminent ICE Arrest This Week

URGENT UPDATE: A San Jose tattoo artist and prominent immigrant rights advocate, Guillermo Medina Reyes, is facing the imminent threat of arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. This critical situation unfolds just days before his next court appearance on Thursday, where a federal judge will decide whether to lift a temporary restraining order that currently protects him from detention.

Reyes, aged 31, immigrated from Mexico to the United States at just six years old. He has become a well-known figure in the community, advocating for immigrant rights and fighting against “dehumanizing” immigration policies. However, his past includes a juvenile conviction for attempted murder, for which he served over a decade in prison. After his release, Reyes was detained in an ICE facility for more than a year.

Dozens of supporters rallied outside the federal courthouse in San Francisco on July 15, 2025, passionately chanting, “Donald Trump, let’s be clear, immigrants are welcome here!” Activists from Indivisible San Francisco emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is a very critical moment. Guillermo knows that detention is a terrifying reality, but he’s choosing to fight back to defend his freedom.”

Reyes’ attorney appeared on his behalf during the hearing, urging the court to maintain the restraining order that has shielded him from ICE actions since its issuance in July. The expiration of this order puts Reyes at risk of immediate detention if the judge rules against him.

Supporters and friends, including Stephanie Jayne, have voiced their concerns, highlighting the broader implications of Reyes’ possible arrest. “ICE is going after everyone that they can,” Jayne told reporters, reflecting the anxiety shared by many in the immigrant community.

This developing situation raises critical questions about the future of immigration enforcement policies in the United States and their impact on individuals like Reyes, who strive to contribute positively to society despite past mistakes. As the court date approaches, the community’s response underscores the urgent need for reform and support for immigrant rights.

What happens next could set a significant precedent for similar cases across the country. Activists are urging the public to stay informed and involved as they await the judge’s decision on Thursday. Reyes’ determination to change his life and advocate for others in his community resonates deeply, making this an urgent story to follow.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
