URGENT UPDATE: Roy P. Fischer, a beloved educator and community leader from Uniontown, PA, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. This sudden loss has left a profound impact on the community, as Fischer dedicated his life to education, faith, and service.
Fischer was a prominent figure in the Uniontown area, actively involved in the Third Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was also a cherished teacher at the Laurel Highlands School District, known for his engaging lessons in Science and Social Studies. His educational contributions extended beyond the classroom; he founded the Laurel Highlands Jumonville Outdoor School, providing countless students with enriching outdoor experiences.
Born on July 4, 1946, in Uniontown, Fischer was the son of the late Roy O. Fischer and Virginia Friend Fischer. He graduated from South Union High School in 1964 and later earned his teaching degree from California University. He continued his education with postgraduate studies at Penn State University and West Virginia University.
In addition to his professional achievements, Fischer was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Reitz Fischer, and their five children: David, Donald, Matthew, Laura, and Holly. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.
Visitation will take place at the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home & Crematories, located at 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Abundant Life Church on July 28 from 10 to 11 a.m., officiated by Pastors Garrett Howard and Mac Reed. Following the service, interment will occur at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
