Rian Johnson & Josh O’Connor Unveil Faith Themes in Knives Out 3

BREAKING: Writer-director Rian Johnson and star Josh O’Connor have just revealed major insights into the upcoming film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, set for release on November 26, 2025. This third installment delves into profound themes of faith and guilt, marking a significant shift from the franchise’s previous explorations of wealth and greed.

In a recent interview, Johnson and O’Connor discussed how their personal experiences with religion shaped the narrative. The film centers on the character of Jud Duplenticy, played by O’Connor, a well-meaning reverend who teams up with detective Benoit Blanc, portrayed by Daniel Craig, to solve the murder of Monsignor Jefferson Wicks. Set in a tight-knit village parish, the film confronts deep philosophical questions about faith and the human condition.

Johnson stated, “This is what a big part of the point of writing this was,” reflecting on his own journey from a devout Christian to a non-believer. He emphasized the ongoing internal dialogue between belief and skepticism, stating, “it’s that they’re in constant conversation.” This duality plays a crucial role in the dynamic between Jud and Blanc, highlighting the clash of ideologies as they navigate the complexities of faith.

As the murder mystery unfolds, the characters’ contrasting beliefs are put to the test. O’Connor shared that their first conversation revolved around these theological questions, revealing his own struggles with faith and how it informs his character. He remarked, “You do learn things from a character, and the great privilege of being an actor is that you’re collecting these souls and learning things from them.”

The film features a stellar supporting cast, including Glenn Close as fervent devotee Martha Delacroix, Jeremy Renner as abandoned Dr. Nat Sharp, and Kerry Washington as bitter lawyer Vera Draven. Each character brings their own relationship with faith to the story, reflecting a range of beliefs and motivations in the wake of Wicks’ shocking death.

With its mix of humor, drama, and suspense, Wake Up Dead Man aims to captivate audiences while provoking thought on spirituality and moral dilemmas. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how Johnson weaves these heavy themes into a captivating whodunit.

The film promises a fresh perspective within the franchise, inviting viewers to engage with the deeper implications of faith and belief systems. As details continue to emerge, the conversation around this unique take on the mystery genre is heating up.

Stay tuned for further updates on Wake Up Dead Man, as excitement grows for its November release. This latest Knives Out installment is poised to challenge perceptions and spark discussions on faith, guilt, and the human experience.
