Rev. Foy Lee Spivey, a beloved figure in the Christian community, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of faith and service. He was born on October 2, 1934, near Tallahassee, Florida, and exhibited a remarkable talent for singing from an early age. This passion led him to join the Florida All State Chorus at just 16 years old, where he showcased his beautiful tenor voice.
After graduating from Blountstown High School, Rev. Spivey enlisted in the Air Force, serving as a Navigator. His time in the military instilled in him a love for aviation, which would continue to be a significant part of his life. In 1954, he met Peggy Edmunds in Savannah, Georgia, and they married in December 1955. Following their marriage, Rev. Spivey attended Bob Jones University, earning a degree in Bible studies. During their years in Greenville, South Carolina, the couple welcomed two daughters, Michelle and Janine.
Rev. Spivey’s journey as a pastor began in a small church in Faceville, Georgia. The family later welcomed a son, Jonathan, born in nearby Bainbridge. Their commitment to their faith led them to serve as missionaries in Sweden for eleven years under the auspices of the Gospel Fellowship Association. Following their time in Sweden, they relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, where Rev. Spivey took on the role of missionary pilot, flying a twin-engine Cessna to remote areas of Vancouver Island.
After moving to the mainland, the Spivey family settled in a small church close to Vancouver. Rev. Spivey devoted himself to his ministry and his family, caring for Peggy during her final years, which were marked by health struggles. He continued to preach until shortly before his own passing, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his faith.
Rev. Spivey is predeceased by his wife, Peggy Edmunds Spivey, his parents, Grady Belle Kirkland and William Leon Spivey, and his siblings, Gaston, Garlon Spivey, and Vermeil McCrone. He is survived by his children, Michelle (married to Ken Haden), Janine Rees, and Jonathan (married to Yoko), along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on March 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 2939 Bethel Road, Brinson, Georgia. Online condolences can be expressed through Cox-Ivey Funeral Home, which is managing the arrangements. Rev. Spivey’s dedication to his faith and family will be remembered by all who knew him.
