R-BAR Hosts 6th Annual 5K Run for Shelter on October 4

The Reading-Berks Association of Realtors (R-BAR) is set to host its 6th annual 5K Run for Shelter on October 4, 2023, at the Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in Spring Township. This charitable event aims to raise funds for two local nonprofits: Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks Inc. (NHS). Both organizations focus on enhancing community welfare and expanding housing opportunities in the region.

Runners and walkers of all skill levels can participate in this professionally timed race, which features a flat and fast course along the scenic Union Canal Trail. The event is designed to be inclusive, encouraging community members to support a cause that significantly impacts local housing solutions.

Participants can expect a lively atmosphere filled with purpose and enthusiasm. Every registration contributes to funding essential services like closing cost assistance and affordable housing initiatives in Berks County.

Event Details and Highlights

The 5K Run for Shelter promises a variety of attractions for individuals and families alike. The race will kick off with registration opening at 8 a.m. and the official start at 9 a.m.. An awards ceremony will follow at 10 a.m. to celebrate the top finishers across various age divisions, from those under 14 to participants over 70 years old.

To encourage early registration, R-BAR offers an early bird fee of $20 for those who sign up by September 1, 2023. After this date, the registration fee increases to $25, with a limited number of race T-shirts available.
