UPDATE: The winning numbers for the staggering $700 million Powerball jackpot have just been drawn on Saturday, October 21, 2023. The numbers are: 11, 14, 34, 47, 51, and the red Powerball 18.
This historic drawing marks one of the largest jackpots of the year, and the lucky winner has the option to choose between receiving the full amount in annual installments over 29 years or a one-time cash payout of $316.3 million before taxes.
The excitement surrounding this drawing follows a lengthy drought of winners, with no grand prize winner emerging for an unprecedented 36 consecutive rounds. The last time a jackpot was claimed was on May 31, when a ticket worth $204.5 million was sold in California.
Although no one matched all six numbers in the previous drawing on Wednesday, there were significant wins. A Tennessee player snagged $2 million by matching five numbers and opting for the Power Play option, while two additional tickets claimed $1 million each. In total, 30 tickets matched four numbers plus the Powerball, with eight of those doubling their prizes to $100,000.
The Powerball jackpot has surged dramatically, outpacing other significant prizes this year. However, it has not yet reached the heights of last year’s record-breaking $1.3 billion jackpot claimed by Cheng “Charlie” Saephan in Oregon.
Players across 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands can purchase $2 tickets. Many states also offer online purchasing options through official channels. The drawing occurs every Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
For an additional dollar, players can enhance their chances of winning through the Power Play option, which can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times. In select states, a separate Double Play option allows participants to enter a second drawing for a chance at up to $10 million.
