UPDATE: The Pope John Paul II High School will honor its latest inductees into the Legacy of Impact Hall of Fame on November 14, 2025, at 7 p.m., following a 6 p.m. reception. This year’s ceremony will celebrate the significant contributions of Jim Shaffer, Charles McPherson, and the legendary 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School Basketball Team, among others.

Jim Shaffer, who led Archbishop Kennedy High’s boys basketball team to numerous victories, will be recognized for his commitment to young athletes. Shaffer’s coaching legacy extends beyond the basketball court; he played a vital role in establishing the AMBUCS Stars Special Olympics Montgomery County basketball team in 1988, demonstrating his dedication to inclusivity in sports.
The 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School basketball team is celebrated as a classic underdog story, capturing the hearts of fans with their stunning championship win against West Catholic at the Palestra. Charles McPherson, affectionately known as “Mr. Mac,” will also be honored for his extensive contributions to youth sports programs.
