UPDATE: Players of Hollow Knight: Silksong are expressing frustration over two new features that are proving to be exceptionally difficult. Fans report that these changes are causing many to abandon the game early, highlighting the urgent need for adjustments from the developers, Team Cherry.
The game, already a major financial success, has introduced mechanics that are far more punishing than its predecessor. Specifically, many common enemies now deal double damage, making even the early levels of the RPG a serious challenge. In the original game, double damage was typically reserved for difficult bosses; now, players are finding themselves overwhelmed by regular foes.
Additionally, the protagonist Hornet’s new downward slash attack is causing significant frustration. Instead of a straightforward slam, this attack occurs at an angle, complicating interactions with red bouncing pods required for navigation in the game’s Hunter’s March area. Players report falling to their deaths due to the imprecise nature of the attack, leading to a wave of criticism on social media platforms like Reddit.
One player vented, “I’ve noticed the game has way more enemies and bosses that do double damage. In Hollow Knight, double damage was mostly reserved for final bosses and the absolute hardest challenges the game had to offer.” Another echoed these sentiments, stating, “In the ant area, you are expected to do a lot of downward attacks to bounce off things for parkour, but the downward attack only goes at a 45-degree angle, making it frustratingly hard.”
For those struggling with the new mechanics, there is a workaround. By unlocking the Wanderer’s Crest, players can revert the downward attack to a more manageable format similar to that of the original game. To obtain this, players must purchase a Simple Key from the merchant in Bone Bottom for 500 Rosaries and then navigate to the Chapel of the Wanderer located west of Mosshome.
Here’s how to unlock the Wanderer’s Crest:
1. Purchase the Simple Key for 500 Rosaries at the Merchant in Bone Bottom.
2. Travel to Mosshome and enter the room north of the elevator. Bounce off the cages and head west to the Wormways.
3. Proceed through the Wormways and drop into the first pit you encounter.
4. Continue downward until reaching the Wanderers Chapel to unlock the crest.
Despite these challenges, fans are hopeful that as they progress, the game will become more manageable. However, the initial difficulty spike has left many feeling disheartened, particularly with the sheer number of enemies capable of inflicting double damage and the complex parkour mechanics.
As the community reacts, Team Cherry has yet to announce any potential updates or adjustments to address these concerns. For now, players are encouraged to adapt their strategies and utilize the Wanderer’s Crest to alleviate some of the early-game frustrations.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops. The gaming community is watching closely, and with player dissatisfaction mounting, Team Cherry may need to respond quickly to retain their devoted fanbase.
