UPDATE: The Westfield Planning Board has just approved a significant new construction project in the city’s north end. During a meeting held on August 19, the board, led by Chair Cheryl Crowe, swiftly voted to grant a special permit for a contractor’s shop and a retail building, marking a pivotal development for the area.
This project, proposed by NextGen Construction Service, owned by Rene Gauthier, will occupy three acres just north of Hometown Structures, providing vital access to both Southampton Road and Airport Drive. The plan includes two substantial buildings, each spanning 7,200 square feet, designed to enhance local business opportunities.
The construction will feature a contractor’s shop located at the rear, which will be exclusively utilized by NextGen Construction. The front building is intended for office or retail space, with potential clients yet to be determined. Both buildings will incorporate parking facilities at the front and rear, ensuring ample space for customers and operations.
This approval is crucial for economic growth in Westfield, as it promises to create jobs and enhance the local business landscape. Residents and local business owners have expressed anticipation regarding the project, highlighting its potential to revitalize the area.
As the project progresses, attention will shift to the timeline for construction and the subsequent impact on the community. The Planning Board’s decision underscores Westfield’s commitment to fostering development and supporting local enterprises.
