Orioles Announce Craig Albernaz as New Manager for 2026 Season

UPDATE: The Baltimore Orioles have just announced the hiring of Craig Albernaz as their new manager, a move aimed at revitalizing the team following a disappointing 2025 season. Sources confirm that the deal is being finalized, marking Albernaz’s first major league managerial role.

This decision comes in the wake of the Orioles’ struggles last season, which saw them finish last in the American League East with a record of 75-87. The team fired former manager Brandon Hyde mid-May after a rough start of 15-28 and appointed Tony Mansolino as interim manager.

With a promising roster boasting young talents like Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jordan Westburg, the Orioles’ managerial position has been one of the most coveted in baseball this offseason. Albernaz, who has built a reputation for successfully connecting with younger players, emerged as the top candidate.

At just 42 years old, Albernaz previously served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, helping them clinch the American League Central title this year. His extensive experience, which includes a nine-year playing career and coaching roles with the Tampa Bay Rays and San Francisco Giants, makes him an ideal fit for the Orioles.

“Craig Albernaz has proven to be a skilled leader and a great communicator,” said an Orioles official. “His ability to engage with players will be crucial as we develop our young talent.”

Albernaz’s appointment comes with significant challenges. The Orioles will face fierce competition in the AL East, with teams like the defending champions Toronto Blue Jays and a strong New York Yankees squad. Additionally, the team’s pitching depth is a concern, especially with Grayson Rodriguez recovering from injuries.

Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Albernaz will leverage the Orioles’ young core to compete in a tough division. His focus will be not only on improving the team’s performance but also on building a cohesive environment that fosters growth.

As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on the Orioles to see how Albernaz’s leadership will unfold in preparation for the 2026 MLB season. The anticipation is palpable, with many hoping this marks the beginning of a new era for Baltimore baseball.
