UPDATE: Oregon officials just announced a critical $23 million grant to fund a 75-unit supportive housing village near Redmond Airport, addressing the state’s urgent housing crisis. The funding, approved by the Oregon Housing Stability Council, aims to create more affordable homes amidst a growing demand for housing solutions.
The Mountain View Community Village will be developed on 9.48 acres of county-owned land in Deschutes County, featuring 68 units of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) and seven market-rate units. This project is part of a broader strategy by the Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) to enhance the state’s housing supply, with a total of 329 affordable homes being funded across locations including Astoria and Portland.
The cottage-style homes are designed for privacy and dignity, featuring private entries and noise-reducing elements. Residents will also benefit from dedicated office space for PSH services, alongside a community space for tenant meetings and gatherings. Additional amenities include laundry facilities, green spaces, community gardens, and dog runs, all designed to reduce social isolation among residents.
“This initiative is a vital step towards solving the affordability crisis Oregonians face,” said OHCS Executive Director Andrea Bell. “We must unite to ensure every Oregonian has access to a safe and affordable home.” The urgency of this project reflects the critical need for diverse housing options, particularly in rural areas where local solutions are essential.
The funding was secured through the Oregon Centralized Application process, which streamlines the allocation of resources to expedite the creation of affordable housing. This innovative approach aims to address housing needs more efficiently, ensuring timely support for vulnerable communities.
As the project moves forward, residents and local stakeholders are encouraged to engage in community-building activities that promote social interaction and support services. The timeline for construction and occupancy will be closely monitored as part of OHCS’s commitment to enhancing housing stability across Oregon.
Stay tuned for further updates as this project develops, marking a significant milestone in Oregon’s efforts to combat the housing affordability crisis. For more information on the housing initiatives, visit oregon.gov/ohcs.
