Oregon Ducks Secure 21-7 Victory Over Wisconsin in Rain-Soaked Clash

UPDATE: In a rain-soaked showdown, the No. 6 Oregon Ducks defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 21-7 at Autzen Stadium on October 21, 2023. This match, marked by challenging weather conditions, was a crucial win for Oregon, who improved to 7-1 this season.

The Ducks, backed by a crowd of 58,940 fans, struggled early but found their rhythm with a significant 16-play, 99-yard touchdown drive that consumed over eight minutes in the second quarter. Head Coach Dan Lanning noted, “We used the clock well today. We played the brand of football that was necessary to win this game.”

Despite a slow start, Oregon’s offensive line showcased resilience, particularly in the second half where they amassed 164 of 203 rushing yards. Running back Jordon Davison excelled with 102 yards and two touchdowns, emphasizing the importance of the long drive. “We look at it as a positive,” Davison stated, reflecting on their ability to maintain control amid difficult circumstances.

Wisconsin, struggling with multiple key injuries, was unable to find consistent offensive momentum, managing only 196 total yards. Oregon’s defense, ranked among the top 10 in several categories, effectively held the Badgers to just 86 passing yards, marking back-to-back games with fewer than 100 yards allowed in the air for the first time since 1984.

The match was not without its frustrations for Oregon. After a hit to the face left quarterback Dante Moore sidelined, walk-on Brock Thomas stepped in to lead the Ducks through two touchdown drives. “It was pretty special,” Thomas said, appreciating the trust his teammates placed in him during a challenging game.

Though the Ducks emerged victorious, linebacker Bryce Boettcher expressed disappointment over allowing Wisconsin to score a touchdown, stating, “We prepare to not give up any points and sometimes the offense does because they’re good too.”

This hard-fought victory keeps Oregon firmly in the hunt for the postseason as they aim to build on their current success. As they look ahead, all eyes will be on how they capitalize on the momentum gained from this gritty win.

With the rain-soaked battle behind them, the Ducks are set to face tougher challenges ahead, and fans are brimming with anticipation for what’s next.
