New Salad Bar in Saginaw Offers Fresh, Custom Lunch Options

URGENT UPDATE: A new lunch hotspot, The Salad Bar by Soul Food Sistas, is now open in downtown Saginaw, MI, offering fresh, custom-made salads, wraps, and soups. Owner Latasha Lawson is inviting the community to experience her passion for healthy eating at 203 S. Washington Ave., launched in May 2024.

Lawson, who previously operated a catering business, has infused every dish with her dedication and meticulous attention to detail. “I’m so meticulous; everything is house. My business comes first because it’s my blood, my sweat, my tears,” Lawson stated. Customers can enjoy a wide selection of fresh greens, proteins, and homemade dressings, tailored to their taste on the spot.

The Salad Bar features a variety of ingredients including spinach, romaine, strawberries, and blueberries, ensuring health-conscious diners have plenty of options. Notably, the Kenya Special salad, created in memory of Lawson’s late friend, includes chicken, shrimp, olives, and ranch dressing. “It’s a special tribute to someone who supported me from the beginning,” she added.

With a small space, Lawson encourages patrons to ask about items that might not be on display, as additional ingredients are kept in a second cooler. The salad bar also emphasizes vegan options, such as chickpeas and black beans, for those seeking plant-based meals.

In addition to salads, The Salad Bar offers sandwiches, wraps, and rotating soups, including the popular chicken and dumpling soup made from Lawson’s mother’s cherished recipe. “It’s awesome having her with me in the kitchen,” Lawson shared, highlighting the family connection behind her culinary creations.

Located within the SVRC Marketplace, a hub for small businesses in Saginaw, The Salad Bar aims to foster community connections. “I wish more people knew about the SVRC Marketplace. It’s a great starting point for any small business,” Lawson said, emphasizing the importance of local support.

The Salad Bar operates on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring taco salads with turkey taco meat, and from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For those eager to try something new and healthy, this local gem is the perfect destination.
