UPDATE: Four new Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and Incapacitated Adults were officially sworn in at Lake Superior Court on October 15, marking a significant expansion in support for vulnerable community members. This initiative, a collaboration between Franciscan Health and the Lake County Courts, aims to provide essential representation for elderly and incapacitated adults who cannot advocate for themselves.
During the ceremony, Lake Superior Court Probate Commissioner Ben Ballou welcomed the new advocates: Blanca Aranda from Crown Point, Francine Gildon from Merrillville, Christopher Mignogna from Cedar Lake, and Lauree Pondinas from St. John. This program is partially funded through grants from the Indiana Supreme Court, the Legacy Foundation Inc., and various local and national donors.
Why does this matter? With the aging population increasing, the need for effective advocacy is critical. These trained volunteers will serve as court-appointed agents, ensuring that the voices of those who cannot speak for themselves are heard.
