NBA Draft Future: Thunder, Nets, Jazz, Rockets, Grizzlies Dominate Picks

BREAKING: The 2025 NBA champions, Oklahoma City Thunder, have redefined how teams can leverage draft picks to secure future success. As of September 18, 2025, five franchises, including the Thunder, hold a staggering 55 first-round picks combined, setting the stage for a transformative draft landscape.

The Thunder lead the charge with a remarkable 13 future first-round picks and 16 second-round picks, positioning them as the frontrunners for long-term dominance. Following last summer’s hefty commitment of $800 million to stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren, the team’s treasure trove of draft assets is set to offset their rising payroll. With a top-4 protected first from the Philadelphia 76ers and swap rights with the LA Clippers in 2027, the Thunder could still land lottery picks even if they excel this season.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets are not far behind, also holding 13 future first-round picks. The Nets are eyeing the 2026 NBA Draft as a critical juncture, especially since they owe a 2027 pick swap to the Houston Rockets. Under the guidance of general manager Sean Marks, the Nets are focusing on player development, hoping to turn their recent draft haul into immediate contributors.

The Utah Jazz possess 11 future first-round picks, but are currently navigating a complicated rebuilding phase. With a top-8 protected pick owed to the Thunder, the Jazz are committed to internal player development while new front office leadership aims to shift the team’s trajectory away from mediocrity.

The Houston Rockets enter the season with 9 first-round picks, bolstered by the recent addition of Kevin Durant. Houston’s strategy combines present competitiveness with future potential, highlighted by their unprotected 2027 pick from the Phoenix Suns, which could be pivotal in both trades and draft selections.

Finally, the Memphis Grizzlies are also in the mix with 9 future first-round picks. Their recent trade of Desmond Bane for draft assets signals a focus on long-term growth. With a competitive roster featuring Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies are positioned for a strong season while simultaneously eyeing the draft.

The implications of these developments are monumental. The teams with the most draft capital are now better equipped to make significant moves that could reshape the league. As the 2026 NBA Draft approaches, all eyes will be on these franchises and their strategic decisions.

What happens next? Fans and analysts alike should watch how these teams utilize their draft capital in the coming months. Will the Thunder and Nets capitalize on their resources to make bold moves? How will the Jazz and Grizzlies develop their young talent? The future of the NBA draft landscape is rapidly evolving, and it promises to be a thrilling season ahead.

Stay tuned for further updates as these teams navigate their paths to success!
