UPDATE: Nasto’s Ice Cream Co., a beloved ice cream institution in New Jersey for over 86 years, is set to open its highly anticipated second location on Saturday, November 22, 2023. The grand opening will take place at the Cloverleaf Shopping Center, located at 992 St. Georges Ave. in the Avenel section of Woodbridge.
The event promises an exciting celebration, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giveaways, live music, and free samples of their famous ice cream. Customers can enjoy the festivities from noon to 10 p.m. on opening day and Sunday, November 23. Once operational, the new shop will serve the community seven days a week, with hours to be announced shortly.
Nasto’s Old World Desserts has been delighting customers with its authentic Italian ice cream since 1939, when it was founded by Frank Sr. and Angelina Nasto in Newark’s Ironbound Section. The new Woodbridge location will feature signature Italian specialties like Spumoni, Bisque Tortoni, and the original Tartufo, alongside a variety of other offerings including gelato, sorbet, Italian ices, ice cream cakes, gourmet cakes, pastries, and individual desserts.
Gabriella Nasto, a fourth-generation family member involved in the business, expressed her excitement about joining the Woodbridge community, saying, “We are thrilled to bring our family recipes and traditions to a new audience.” The recipes are rooted in Frank Nasto Sr.’s hometown of Nocera, Italy, adding a personal touch to each delicious treat.
The original Newark shop, located at 236-240 Jefferson St., features a unique machine in the front window, allowing customers to watch ice cream being made right before their eyes. The Nasto family has expanded the business under the guidance of Frank Sr.’s eldest sons, Al and Frank Jr., supported by a strong family foundation of nine children who have contributed to its growth over the decades.
