BREAKING: A mother of two, Patricia Villa, was tragically shot and killed while working at a storage facility in Covina, California, on Sunday, November 2, 2023. The accused gunman, identified as Juan Nava, 66, is now in police custody as authorities piece together the shocking details of this senseless act of violence.
Family and friends gathered for an emotional vigil on Saturday, honoring Patricia’s life. Many described her as a devoted mother and a bright light in their lives. “Patricia was a non-violent person… why did this have to happen to her?” Patricia’s father, Frank Villa, expressed heartbreakingly. Coworker Deann Pancheri added, “She was a dedicated employee, an awesome coworker, and somebody who brought light to everybody.”
The tragic events unfolded just before the facility’s closing time, around 5 p.m.. Surveillance footage shows a masked man entering the storage facility, where he then shot Patricia five times. When her family couldn’t reach her, they went to the facility and discovered her inside, unresponsive.
Authorities confirmed that police utilized facial recognition technology to identify Nava as the suspect. They reported he was a customer and tenant at the facility, exhibiting signs of a mental health crisis. “They searched his house and found many arms, automatic weapons, side arms, pistols,” Frank revealed.
In the wake of this devastating loss, a GoFundMe page has been established to support Patricia’s family during this challenging time. “I don’t know how anybody could plan for something like this… it was just that random,” Pancheri stated, reflecting the disbelief felt by many.
As of now, no bail has been set for Nava, who is scheduled to appear in court on December 9, 2023.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for discussions surrounding gun violence and mental health support in our communities. As the investigation unfolds, many are left grappling with the profound loss of a beloved member of the Covina community.
