URGENT UPDATE: Director Molly Ratermann has officially wrapped post-production on her highly anticipated feature debut, “Making a Bridesmaid,” a comedy horror film set for a 2026 festival run. This project, produced by 741 Films and Little Hand Productions, has generated significant buzz for its unique blend of humor and horror, reminiscent of films like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Bridesmaids.”
Filmed on location in Lake Tahoe, California, “Making a Bridesmaid” centers on two outcast sisters, portrayed by Emily Kincaid and Ratermann herself. The story unfolds during a supposedly fun “basic bitch” bachelorette weekend that swiftly transforms into a deadly competition, forcing the sisters to fight for their lives amidst a twisted murder game.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Serra Naiman, Wilder Yari from “The Lincoln Lawyer”, Alex Sgambati known for “The Walking Dead,” Gina Su, Maya Butler, April Kelley, and Cynthia Aileen Strahan.
Leading the creative team is Sabrina Plisco, President of American Cinema Editors (ACE), who will also make her producing debut with this project. She is joined by cinematographer David Newbert of “Willy’s Wonderland.” The team aims to deliver a film that not only entertains but also provokes thought on societal issues surrounding female identity and rivalry.
Ratermann describes “Making a Bridesmaid” as “a wild, fun ride that digs into fakeness, identity, and rivalry, even as women keep reaching for solidarity.” She emphasizes the film’s vibrant aesthetics, featuring “pastel-neon textures” and a “synth-pop pulse,” while exploring deep-rooted themes of competition among women.
As the film is now picture-locked, plans for its premiere and sales representation are forthcoming. The anticipation surrounding “Making a Bridesmaid” is palpable, and it promises to be a standout entry in the upcoming festival circuit.
With its compelling premise and talented cast, this project is generating buzz and discussion among audiences eager to see how Ratermann’s vision unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates on its release and festival appearances as they develop!
