Mike Maddux Leaves Rangers to Join Angels as Pitching Coach

URGENT UPDATE: Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux has officially left the organization, confirming significant changes in the team’s coaching staff. Just announced, Maddux departs after a successful tenure that included guiding the Rangers to their first World Series title in 2023 and achieving a league-leading 3.41 ERA in 2025.

The abrupt shift comes in the wake of managerial changes, as the Rangers replaced fired manager Bruce Bochy with Skip Schumaker. This pivotal decision has led Maddux to seek new opportunities, reportedly signing on as the new pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels.

In a statement reflecting on Maddux’s impact, Chris Young, the team’s president of baseball operations, expressed gratitude: “

We are forever grateful to Mike for his contributions here. Mike has played a major role for some of the best teams in Rangers history, including the franchise’s first World Series title in 2023. We wish him the best.

Maddux, aged 64, is no stranger to the Rangers, having served two separate stints as their pitching coach. He initially held the position from 2009 to 2015 before briefly joining Bochy’s staff again in 2023. Throughout his career, he has worked with notable pitchers including Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom, contributing to the team’s formidable performance.

The announcement of Maddux’s new role with the Angels signifies a major shift in the landscape of Major League Baseball’s coaching staff, with implications for both teams. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this transition will alter the dynamics of the upcoming season.

As this story develops, stay tuned for further updates on how Maddux’s departure will impact the Rangers and the Angels, and what coaching strategies he will implement in his new role.
