Mavs’ Brandon Williams Apologizes After Arrest for Marijuana

URGENT UPDATE: Dallas Mavericks guard Brandon Williams has publicly apologized for his recent arrest on a charge of marijuana possession, calling it a distraction just ahead of the team’s game against Indiana on October 21, 2023. Speaking to reporters, the 25-year-old player expressed remorse, stating, “I just want to apologize for just being a distraction. I want to take full accountability.”

Williams was detained at DFW International Airport after authorities discovered less than 2 ounces of marijuana in his luggage. This incident occurred as he was traveling to a funeral for a friend, adding a layer of emotional complexity to the situation. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd commented on the incident, highlighting the need for support: “Going to a funeral for a friend that’s passing, having that incident, that’s something that he has to deal with.”

Despite the turmoil surrounding him, Williams was made available for tonight’s game against the Pacers. He has yet to score this season, averaging 9.5 minutes on the court over two games in his fourth NBA season.

The Mavericks organization is standing by Williams during this challenging time, emphasizing the importance of accountability and support among teammates. As the team prepares for the game, fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see how this incident impacts Williams’ performance moving forward.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
