UPDATE: The highly anticipated Lodi Grape Festival has officially kicked off today, September 8, 2023, in Lodi, California, marking a vibrant celebration of over 90 years of tradition. Thousands are expected to flood the festival grounds over the next four days, reveling in the rich culture surrounding the wine grape harvest.
Festival-goers can look forward to a packed schedule of entertainment, food, and wine tasting, with activities running from noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 11 p.m. on Sunday. This year’s lineup features live music acts, including popular artists like Tyler Rich and We the Kings, making it an unmissable event for families and wine enthusiasts alike.
“It’s actually a family tradition. I’ve been going here since I was little,” said Monica Izaguirre, a long-time attendee. Her sentiment echoes the experiences of many families who have made the festival a cornerstone of their annual celebrations. Karen Brown Anderson, another festival veteran, recalls the joy of childhood visits, where parents enjoyed the beer booths while kids reveled in ride tickets.
One highlight this year is a booth dedicated to teaching attendees how to make wine. “Since we’re in the middle of 100,000 acres of California’s finest grapes, it’s a great opportunity to learn how to create your own,” said Randy Savig from the Lodi Amateur Vintners Association. “Many of our club members have transitioned from amateurs to owning commercial wineries.”
Festival CEO Mark Armstrong, who has overseen the event for 34 years, emphasized the significance of the grape and wine industry to the local community. “The grapes and the wine industry are the lifeblood of the community, and we want to promote that the best we can,” he stated. Armstrong describes the festival as “a homecoming for everybody,” highlighting its deep-rooted connection to local culture.
Tickets are still available for those eager to join the festivities. For the best deals, Armstrong advises purchasing them online. This year’s festival promises not just a celebration of wine and grapes, but a heartfelt gathering for the community and visitors alike.
