Lainey Wilson Takes Home 2025 CMA Awards’ Top Honors

UPDATE: Lainey Wilson has just been crowned the 2025 CMA Awards’ Entertainer of the Year, a thrilling highlight of the star-studded ceremony held Wednesday night in Nashville. Wilson not only hosted the event but also captivated the audience with her performances, solidifying her status as a powerhouse in country music.

In her emotional acceptance speech, Wilson declared, “It takes a village,” and promised fans, “We about to party.” She triumphed over major contenders including Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Morgan Wallen, last year’s winner. Earlier in the evening, she also claimed the Album of the Year for her project “Whirlwind” and secured the title of Female Vocalist of the Year for the fourth time.

Wilson took a strong stance on the treatment of women in country music, stating, “For the folks that are sitting at home, in your mama’s basement, eating your Cheetos, trying to pit women against each other… Y’all need to find something better to do.” Her powerful words resonated with fans, reflecting her commitment to uplifting fellow artists in the industry.

The 59th Annual CMA Awards, aired live from the Bridgestone Arena, was also a significant night for Ella Langley and Riley Green, whose catchy hit “You Look Like You Love Me” won both Single of the Year and Song of the Year. Langley expressed her excitement, saying, “This song is the gift that keeps on giving.”

Vince Gill received the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, with Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless honoring him with a heartfelt performance of “When I Call Your Name.” George Strait praised Gill’s talent, remarking, “He’s just an immense talent. And oh, yeah, he plays with The Eagles.” Gill’s acceptance speech was filled with humor, including a playful jab about being the only recipient who has “never smoked any weed.”

The iconic duo Brooks & Dunn celebrated their 16th win for Vocal Duo of the Year, with Kix Brooks affirming their love for country music, stating, “Hell no!” Cody Johnson celebrated his first win as Male Vocalist of the Year, adding to the excitement of the evening.

The night was full of electrifying performances, with Combs kicking off the show with a fiery rendition of “Back in the Saddle.” Wilson dazzled the audience with a medley featuring surprise guests like Little Big Town and Keith Urban. Other standout performances included Kelsea Ballerini, Kenny Chesney, and a unique collaboration between Combs and rapper BigXThaPlug on the track “Pray Hard,” highlighting the genre’s evolving landscape.

Emerging artist Zach Top won New Artist of the Year, humorously recalling, “I can’t remember if I was supposed to put my beer down first or not,” before taking a swig during his acceptance speech.

The CMA Awards are determined by members of the Country Music Association, including music executives, artists, and publicists. This year’s broadcast on ABC captured the excitement of the country music community and is available for streaming on Hulu starting today.

As the dust settles from this exhilarating night, fans are eager to see how these artists will continue to shape the future of country music. Wilson’s spectacular achievements not only mark a significant moment in her career but also serve as an inspiration to aspiring musicians everywhere. Stay tuned for more updates as the country music scene continues to evolve.
