URGENT UPDATE: The Seattle Kraken continue their impressive surge, overpowering the Calgary Flames with a commanding 5-1 victory last night in Calgary. Shane Wright netted the decisive goal early in the third period, while goaltender Philipp Grubauer turned away a staggering 41 shots to secure the win.
The Kraken’s victory marks their fifth consecutive win on the road and extends their unbeaten streak to 7-0-1 over the last eight games. With this win, Seattle climbs to third place in the competitive Pacific Division, just one point shy of both the Vegas Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers, with two games in hand on Edmonton.
Calgary opened the scoring early, with Adam Klapka finding the net at 6:33 into the first period, but the Kraken quickly responded. Ryan Winterton assisted Jacob Melanson to tie the game just 2:17 into the second period, capitalizing on a turnover by MacKenzie Weegar.
The third period saw a dramatic shift as the Kraken unleashed a flurry of offense, scoring four unanswered goals. Notably, Melanson’s first NHL goal extended his scoring streak to four games, while Winterton matched that with his own streak. The Kraken’s fourth line, featuring Ben Meyers, has proven vital in their offensive onslaught.
Grubauer’s stellar performance is noteworthy as he has now won four consecutive starts, allowing only one goal in each game, and boasting an impressive .972 save percentage while facing a barrage of 140 shots.
Flames’ defenseman Brayden Pachal returned to the lineup after a ten-game absence, leading both teams with nine hits. Despite their efforts, Calgary’s struggles continue, now sitting at 18-20-4 for the season.
Looking ahead, the Kraken are set to host the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, while the Flames travel to face the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.
