UPDATE: In a shocking turn of events, Dy’Zetta Brown, the girlfriend of late dancer Joshua Allen, has shared her emotional account of a fight that erupted during his funeral on November 8, 2023. The altercation, captured on video, occurred moments after she placed a note on Allen’s chest, marking a final goodbye.
Brown revealed to TMZ that she was originally invited by family members before a woman, identified as an aunt from Allen’s maternal side, allegedly attacked her. This incident has drawn widespread attention and has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Allen’s tragic death.
The police were called to Allen’s funeral twice that day. Brown stated that the viral confrontation unfolded after the first police visit, where family members claimed she had a restraining order against Allen. Despite the tensions, Brown remained at the funeral and approached the open casket after allowing family members their time to grieve.
In a heartfelt statement, Brown explained the 90-day emergency protective order against Allen, which was in effect from July until September 22, due to his mental health struggles. She emphasized that she had no control over the restraining order, saying, “I repeatedly told police I didn’t want Joshua in jail—I just wanted him to get help.”
The couple had been together for nearly four years, with the date of his funeral marking their first anniversary of living together. Brown described Allen as “the love of my life,” revealing that they had plans for marriage, children, and a future together. She expressed her deep sorrow, recounting how they never spent any time apart until his arrest over the summer.
Brown recounted her desperate attempts to seek help for Allen, highlighting a troubling response from law enforcement just days before his death. “Three days before his death, I contacted his probation officer and told her I was scared. Her response? ‘Record him so we can send him back to jail,'” she recalled.
Joshua Allen, known for winning So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 in 2008, died at the age of 36 after being struck by a train in September. His father, Eddie Powell, corroborated Brown’s account of Allen’s struggles with mental health.
As the story unfolds, Brown remains vocal about her heartbreak and the perceived failures of the system to support Allen. She remembers him as a “kind” and “talented” individual who had much to offer.
As of now, attempts to reach Allen’s maternal family for comment have been unsuccessful. The incident has sparked a conversation about mental health and the need for more effective support systems, especially for those in crisis.
