UPDATE: The highly anticipated John D. Hancock Film Festival is set to begin on October 24 at Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks, Michigan. This special event celebrates the acclaimed filmmaker’s illustrious career with a multi-screening tribute, featuring nine of his notable films over three days.
Film lovers won’t want to miss this chance to engage with Hancock, who is expected to attend and participate in live 30-minute Q&A sessions alongside cast and crew after each screening. The festival kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 24, with a screening of the cult classic “Let’s Scare Jessica to Death” (1971), followed by two more films: “Suspended Animation” (2001) at 4:30 p.m. and “Bang the Drum Slowly” (1973), starring Robert De Niro, at 7:15 p.m.
On Saturday, October 25, the lineup includes “Baby Blue Marine” (1976) at 11:30 a.m., “A Piece of Eden” (2000) at 2 p.m., and “Weeds” (1987), featuring Nick Nolte, at 7:15 p.m.. The festival concludes on Sunday, October 26, with screenings starting at 11:30 a.m. with “The Looking Glass” (2015), followed by “California Dreaming” (1979) at 2 p.m., and wraps up with the holiday favorite “Prancer” at 4:30 p.m.
Festival-goers can purchase an all-access pass for $25, which grants entry to all nine films. Attendees will receive a punch card at the box office, earning rewards such as a free small popcorn after three films and a free Vickers movie pass after six films. Completing the festival by watching all nine films will earn a signed, commemorative Hancock Film Festival movie poster. Individual tickets will not be available for this event.
Tickets can be secured through the Vickers Theatre website at www.vickerstheatre.com or by calling 269-756-3522.
In a notable side note, Hancock briefly directed scenes for “Jaws 2” (1978) before being replaced after just one month of work, a fact that adds to his fascinating filmography. The Vickers Theatre, originally established in 1911 and known for its historic charm, is now operated by Zach Hackett, who aims to continue its legacy as a premier venue for independent and foreign films.
This festival is not just a celebration of cinema but a chance to connect with the legacy of a filmmaker who has touched many lives. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with Hancock and experience his films on the big screen. Share this news and spread the word!
