UPDATE: The New York Jets’ disastrous 2025 season concluded with a humiliating 35-8 defeat against the Buffalo Bills’ backups at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY on Sunday. This loss marks the Jets’ fifth consecutive defeat, finishing the season with a dismal record of 3-14.
Mitchell Trubisky dominated the Jets’ defense, throwing for 259 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Bills to a strong end to their regular season at 12-5. The Jets were outscored 188-54 over their final five games, raising serious questions about the future of the franchise.
“I’m not happy with the way that it went down,” said Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. “Anytime you lose in that manner, it’s hard to be happy about that.” Glenn, who signed a five-year contract last January, is expected to return for a second season, but significant changes are on the horizon.
Despite clinching a playoff berth, Bills quarterback Josh Allen played only one snap to preserve his consecutive starting streak, which stands at 122 games (including playoffs). Allen, who is nursing a foot injury, exited early, showcasing the Bills’ commitment to their playoff strategy.
The Jets’ performance was historically poor as they became the first team since the NFL’s inception in 1933 to finish a season without an interception. “That’s never something you want to be in the record books for,” stated Jets pass rusher Jermaine Johnson.
In an attempt to secure a better draft position, the Jets have been criticized for their performance this season. Following this latest loss, they will select second overall in the upcoming NFL Draft, while the Raiders hold the first pick.
The Jets’ defense struggled significantly, allowing a staggering 424 yards and failing to register a single sack throughout the game. Their secondary consisted of inexperienced players due to injuries to key starters, including Brandon Stephens and others on injured reserve.
On the offensive side, the Jets fielded rookie quarterback Brady Cook, who completed only 11 of 22 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. The Jets’ rushing attack was hampered by injuries to their top running backs Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis, resulting in just 122 total yards for the game.
“It was a tough one,” Cook acknowledged. “We didn’t execute for most of the game, and it’s a lot to learn from.” The Jets’ offensive struggles reflect a broader issue within the team, which has now completed ten consecutive seasons with a losing record and fifteen years without a playoff appearance.
As the Jets enter the offseason, they face numerous challenges, including the need to improve a roster that has significant gaps on both sides of the ball. With $90 million in projected salary cap space and eight draft picks, the Jets must act decisively to rebuild.
Meanwhile, the Bills will shift their focus to the playoffs, preparing for a matchup against the AFC South division-winning Jaguars. As the Jets look to regroup, their fans will be hoping for a turnaround after a season that can only be described as a nightmare.
