Jacob’s Pillow Cancels 2025 Dance Festival After Tragic Death

BREAKING: Jacob’s Pillow has officially canceled the remainder of its 2025 Summer Dance Festival following a tragic workplace accident that resulted in the death of Kat Sirico, the production manager. The prestigious dance center, located in Becket, Massachusetts, made this devastating announcement late Tuesday night, confirming that the festival will not continue as planned.

The decision comes just days after officials stated performances would resume this week. In a heartfelt statement, the Jacob’s Pillow Board of Trustees expressed deep sorrow: “We have come to this difficult decision following the tragic accident on our campus on August 1.”

According to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s office, the 40-year-old Sirico was involved in a fatal incident while moving staging platforms with a summer intern. The pair reportedly lost control of the dolly they were using, which began to roll downhill. Sirico tripped while attempting to regain control and was tragically run over by the platforms. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by bystanders, she could not be revived.

Authorities have confirmed that no charges will be filed, as the investigation concluded that the incident was purely a workplace accident. This heartbreaking event has reverberated throughout the tight-knit community surrounding Jacob’s Pillow, which is renowned for showcasing some of the world’s finest dancers.

The nine-week festival, initially set to run until August 24, included the highly anticipated reopening of the Doris Duke Theatre, which had been rebuilt after a devastating fire in 2020. Now, all ticket holders affected by the cancellations will receive refunds, as the center shifts its focus to healing and support in light of this tragic loss.

As the dance world mourns the loss of Kat Sirico, officials are urging the public to respect the privacy of her family and colleagues during this difficult time. With the festival’s abrupt end, many are left wondering what the future holds for the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and its community.
