URGENT UPDATE: Indiana has just announced a groundbreaking initiative, awarding $42 million in grants aimed at expanding recycling efforts across the state. Among the recipients is Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc., located in Lake County, which will receive $301,011 to divert over 32,812 tons of recyclable materials annually.
This significant funding from the Indiana Recycling Market Development Board is expected to generate over $15.7 million in total investments, creating 42 jobs and preventing an additional 197,884 tons of waste from entering landfills each year. The grants are administered by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
In addition to Goodwill, several other organizations have been awarded funds, including CT Polymers in Marshall County ($500,000) and Nexus IN RNG – Laporte, LLC in LaPorte County ($500,000). Each of these initiatives is part of a wider effort to enhance Indiana’s recycling capabilities and promote sustainable practices.
NEW APPOINTMENTS: Meanwhile, Gov. Mike Braun has appointed several residents from Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties to state boards and commissions. Notable appointments include Elizabeth Bergeron to the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services Commission and Rick Smith to the Underground Plant Protection Advisory Committee.
COMMUNITY GRANTS ANNOUNCED: The Indiana Dunes Tourism has launched a new grant program, offering $50,000 to fund community projects and events that attract visitors to Porter County. Organizations can apply for funding until December 1, 2025, with selected recipients announced on January 5, 2026. This initiative aims to boost local tourism and enhance community engagement.

A $40 group license plate fee is required, with $25 going directly to support PNW students.
