A city employee in Hugo, Oklahoma, has accused Vice Mayor Robbie Ridenour of making threats of physical harm towards her, contributing to an environment of leadership instability within the city government. Water Clerk Randi Marzek claims that the confrontation arose after she reported a social media post by a former employee, leading to an escalation in tensions.
Marzek detailed the incident, stating, “She said, you need to get your crap together… You’re on the list next to be fired… And that when I got fired, she’d be back to whoop me, basically.” Concerned for her safety, Marzek has since filed a police report and is seeking a protective order against Ridenour.
City Management Changes and Internal Conflict
This incident comes on the heels of significant changes in city management. On March 15, 2026, Alan Reynolds resigned as city manager, returning to his former role as utility director. In his place, Police Chief John Allen has been appointed as interim city manager. Marzek expressed unease regarding Reynolds’ reassignment, particularly given his oversight of the water department, where she holds her position.
The ongoing turmoil has sparked calls for reform from local officials. Councilmember at Large Leah Thomas highlighted the internal strife, stating, “There’s been many things to go on here with the city of Hugo the past several months. With that division of the head, it’s trickled down into the employees.”
Thomas also sought access to security footage related to the alleged threat but reported that the recordings were unavailable. “I asked for the recording of that because the city of Hugo has cameras, but for some reason those recordings are not available,” she noted.
Hope for Stability
As the city navigates these challenges, Thomas expressed hope that recent leadership changes will help restore stability. “The pettiness, the games that are being played, it’s time out for that. We need to move forward,” she said. The council’s decisions, she believes, could be a step towards improving the city’s governance.
The situation in Hugo reflects broader issues of leadership and accountability in local government. As the community watches closely, the actions taken by city officials in the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the future direction of the city.
