Granite Quarry Lights Up Lake in Festive Christmas Celebration

GRANITE QUARRY, December 2, 2023: Granite Quarry’s annual Christmas at the Lake celebration sparked joy and excitement tonight as families flocked to Granite Lake Park for the much-anticipated lighting of the festival of trees. The event kicked off with festive characters, including the gingerbread man and the Grinch, bringing laughter and cheer to children eager for holiday fun.

The vibrant atmosphere featured a variety of activities, from lawn games to s’more making around a cozy firepit, sponsored by Novant Health. A special booth ran by the town encouraged attendees to participate in a house light competition, where neighborhoods submitted their decorations for a chance to win a yard sign and a $100 gift card for more lights. This competition was generously sponsored by Select Realty and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

As part of its community spirit, the town also promoted Operation Christmas Spirit, a heartfelt program aimed at supporting families in need. “We get a Christmas list from the family with what they need,” said Debbie Loflin-Benge, Granite Quarry Event Coordinator. “They’re asking for essentials, not extravagances.” This initiative targets ten families identified by local schools, ensuring that holiday giving is focused on practicality.

Children delighted in writing letters to Santa, which they could either drop in the town mailbox or share directly with Santa himself, who was present for photos. The event drew in over 15 volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly to create a magical experience for all attendees. Local vendors also contributed to the festive vibe, serving hot chocolate and candy apples from Happy’s Farm, which also donated character costumes for the event.

At 5:45 PM, anticipation filled the air as the crowd gathered for the highlight of the evening—the grand Christmas tree lighting. For the first time in town history, the celebration showcased a stunning over 10-foot tall tree adorned with white lights, standing proudly among dozens of other illuminated trees sponsored by local businesses and organizations. After remarks from Mayor Brittany Barnhardt, the trees lit up in a breathtaking display, creating a magical scene that left attendees clamoring for photos.

This year’s celebration not only marked the beginning of the holiday season for Granite Quarry but also reinforced community bonds, showcasing the town’s commitment to both festive joy and helping those in need. As the lights twinkled over the lake, families left with warm hearts and lasting memories, eager to share their experiences with friends and family.

For those who missed the celebration, Granite Quarry’s spirit of community and generosity continues to shine bright this holiday season, encouraging everyone to spread cheer and kindness in their own neighborhoods.
