UPDATE: Google has just announced a groundbreaking feature allowing users to change their Gmail addresses without losing any data. This anticipated option is now rolling out across Europe, expanding beyond its initial release for Hindi users last month.
This new functionality comes as a relief for many who have long been stuck with unsatisfactory Gmail usernames due to unavailability or poor choices made during sign-up. Users can now change the part of their email address before the ‘@gmail.com’ while keeping all emails, photos, and messages intact.
According to Google’s updated support page, “If you choose, you can change your Google Account email that ends in gmail.com to a new address that ends in gmail.com.” This means that your original email will become an alternate address, allowing you to receive emails at both your old and new accounts.
This feature is currently being rolled out in stages, so it may not be available to everyone immediately. Users eager to take advantage of this change should check their Google Account settings.
To make the switch, navigate to http://myaccount.google.com/google-account-email and follow these steps: go to Personal Info, select Email, then Google Account email, and finally choose Change Google Account email. This user-friendly process will guide you on how to change your username seamlessly.
Importantly, users can revert to their previous email address at any time. However, it’s essential to note that once a new Gmail address is created, users won’t be able to create another new Gmail address for a period of 12 months. Additionally, you cannot delete your newly created email address during this time.
With many individuals expressing excitement over this new feature, it’s clear that the ability to change Gmail addresses is a significant step forward for user flexibility. This announcement has already sparked conversations online, making it a hot topic for sharing among friends and family.
Stay tuned as we monitor further updates from Google regarding the full rollout of this feature and any additional functionalities that may be introduced.
