UPDATE: George Lucas has just confirmed that a small Star Wars exhibit will debut at the highly anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, set to open in 2026. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Lucas emphasized that while the museum isn’t a Star Wars museum, the inclusion of the galaxy far, far away is a calculated decision to meet fan expectations.
The museum, which aims to showcase a diverse collection of narrative art, spans over 40,000 pieces and includes 160 works by iconic artist Norman Rockwell. The galleries will feature themes such as family, love, work, and play, exploring the myths that bind society together. Lucas, who is personally curating the museum after the previous director stepped down, noted, “I didn’t want people to come to the museum and say, ‘Where’s the Star Wars?’”
Though the exhibit will feature designs of Star Wars vehicles, including a Naboo Starfighter, it will only make up one of the 33 galleries within the museum. Lucas admitted, “I did it grudgingly,” highlighting his desire to focus on a broader spectrum of narrative art.
As excitement builds for the museum’s launch, fans are eager to see how Lucas will blend his cinematic legacy with other art forms. This decision underscores the continuing impact of Star Wars on popular culture, even as Lucas strives to present a diverse collection.
More details about the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art can be found on its official website, which is currently preparing for the grand opening in 2026. Stay tuned for updates on this monumental project as it develops.
