UPDATE: Montgomery County launches a crucial initiative to prevent drinking and driving this holiday season. The Dayton Police Department has just announced that residents can utilize free Uber rides home through the ArriveSafe program until 6 a.m. on December 6.
This urgent measure aims to ensure safety on the roads during Christmas festivities, following the program’s success last Thanksgiving when it provided over 3,000 rides. Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck emphasized the importance of utilizing this service, stating, “What I’m hoping to get for Christmas this year is everyone home safe.”
With a rising number of marijuana-related driving violations reported, Dayton Police Sgt. Gordon Cairns expressed frustration over continued instances of impaired driving. “People still go out and drink and drive. They smoke marijuana now and drive. We’ve seen an increase in marijuana violations,” he said, highlighting the pressing need for awareness and action.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. To access the free rides, scan the QR code provided in the Dayton Police’s announcement.
As the holiday season approaches, this program stands as a vital resource for keeping the community safe. The initiative not only aims to reduce accidents but also fosters a culture of responsible drinking among residents.
