UPDATE: Former NBA player Kyle Singler, 37, has been charged with misdemeanor assault in Oklahoma following an alarming incident involving his girlfriend. Authorities report that Singler, known for his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Duke University, was arrested on November 2, 2023, after a 911 call alerted police to a disturbance in Whitefield.
The arrest followed a report that Singler was chasing a woman outside a residence. He was subsequently booked into the Haskell County jail and later released on a $6,000 bond. The charges against him include one count of assault and battery in the presence of a child, highlighting the severe implications of the incident.
According to an arrest affidavit, Singler’s girlfriend alleged that he “grabbed her by the head and shoved her to the ground.” A sheriff’s deputy, Mitch Dobbs, noted visible marks on the woman’s face and arms consistent with her claims. Disturbingly, the incident occurred in front of their young child, who was present during the altercation.
Singler reportedly did not cooperate with law enforcement during the investigation and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. As of now, court records do not indicate whether he has retained legal representation. His former agent, Jason Ranne, confirmed via email that he no longer represents Singler.
This incident follows a cryptic Instagram post made by Singler nearly a year ago, in which he expressed fears for his life, prompting concern from former teammates and fans. Singler was a member of Duke’s 2010 national championship team and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament. He was selected as the 33rd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, starting his career overseas before playing in the NBA.
As the situation develops, the public is keenly watching how this legal battle will unfold for Singler. The former athlete, who played parts of four seasons for the Thunder and was named to the All-Rookie second team in 2013, now faces serious personal and legal challenges.
