UPDATE: A suspected narcotics trafficker has died following a police shooting in Fontana, California, earlier today. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 PM in a parking lot located in the 17100 block of West Foothill Boulevard, where the suspect allegedly rammed multiple vehicles before the confrontation escalated.
Authorities report that Fontana police attempted to detain the man, who was wanted for his involvement in the sale and trafficking of a significant quantity of narcotics, primarily fentanyl. During the attempted arrest, the suspect used his vehicle to ram into both police and civilian vehicles, prompting officers to respond with lethal force.
Following the shooting, officers provided immediate medical aid to the man until paramedics arrived. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Justice are now conducting an investigation into the shooting, while the Fontana Police Department will carry out an internal administrative review, as per standard protocol.
