UPDATE: A day care worker in Ocala, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly abusing six infants at the All Star Learning Academy. Karla Penalverty-Gonzalez, 33, faces serious charges after detectives uncovered shocking incidents of child mistreatment spanning from March to July 2024.
Police responded to abuse allegations at the facility on Monday. Investigators revealed harrowing details, including a video that reportedly shows Penalverty-Gonzalez “violently” bouncing a baby, risking severe injury or even death from shaking baby syndrome.
According to the arrest affidavit, another disturbing incident occurred when a child approached Penalverty-Gonzalez for comfort, only to be pushed away onto the floor. A fellow worker reported this to management, yet no immediate action was taken, raising significant concerns about the facility’s oversight.
The affidavit details numerous instances of physical harm, including rough handling, forced feeding, and violent shaking. Despite reports made to supervisors, authorities noted that “no appropriate action was taken to address the allegations in a timely manner.”
Penalverty-Gonzalez has been charged with eight counts of child abuse and resisting arrest. She has been employed at the day care since July 2024. In response to these alarming events, the Department of Children and Families has mandated remedial training for the daycare’s staff.
Police believe there may be additional victims and are urging the public to come forward. “These babies are too young to speak for themselves, and your voice is essential in protecting them,” the Ocala Police Department stated in a Facebook post.
