Fans Flock to ‘Bugonia’ Screening, Bald Caps Replace Shaving

UPDATE: A unique screening for the highly anticipated film Bugonia turned heads and sparked conversations as fans flocked to the event in Los Angeles on October 24, 2023. The screening, hosted by Focus Features, offered free admission to attendees who were bald or willing to shave their heads, aligning with the film’s quirky theme.

The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, features a plot twist where Jesse Plemons kidnaps Emma Stone and shaves her head to prevent communication with her perceived alien overlords. However, the event took an unexpected turn when the anticipated head-shaving process became too time-consuming.

Social media buzzed with reactions as writer Demi Adejuyigbe reported that instead of everyone going bald, attendees began receiving bald caps. “Friend’s boyfriend is at the all-bald screening of BUGONIA and apparently shaving heads took too long so they’re passing out bald caps,” Adejuyigbe tweeted, highlighting the event’s humorous twist.

While some fans went through with the head shave, images posted online revealed many sporting bald caps instead. The Los Angeles Times confirmed that the atmosphere remained upbeat, with attendees appearing to enjoy the quirky experience despite the change in plans.

Bugonia is set to open in limited release this Friday, October 27, before expanding nationwide on October 31. Fans are eagerly awaiting reviews and insights, with a special feature interview with director Yorgos Lanthimos expected later this week.

This screening, blending marketing creativity with audience participation, underscores the film’s playful spirit. While some may have felt a twinge of regret for shaving, they still left with the excitement of a unique film experience and a free ticket to a movie that promises to be anything but ordinary.

Stay tuned for more updates as Bugonia prepares to hit theaters!
