ETBU Tigers Fall to Belhaven in Thrilling 3-2 Match

URGENT UPDATE: East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) suffered a heartbreaking loss to Belhaven University, falling 3-2 in a nonconference men’s soccer match on September 30, 2023, at Cornish Field. This defeat brings ETBU’s season record to 2-2 as they faced a late-game challenge that proved decisive.

The Tigers initially trailed, but a stunning equalizer came from Abdulaqader Majid just before halftime, with an assist from Joshua Daley in the 39th minute. ETBU surged ahead when Daley scored in the 55th minute, capitalizing on a feed from Matthew Aguilar to make it 2-1.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically. Belhaven responded with a goal in the 69th minute, leveling the score. The tension escalated until the 84th minute, when Belhaven netted the game-winner, leaving ETBU with a bitter defeat.

The Tigers displayed offensive pressure with a total of eight shots, including seven on goal. Goalkeeper Ryan Lord made three crucial saves but could not prevent the late-game collapse.

ETBU now looks to rebound as they prepare for their next match against McMurry on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.. Fans will be eager to see if the Tigers can turn this setback into motivation for a strong performance on the road.
