Elyria Library’s Watercolor Wednesdays Boost Creativity Now

UPDATE: The Elyria Public Library System’s South Branch is igniting creativity with its popular Watercolor Wednesdays class, which just took place on January 28, 2023. Participants of all ages joined to explore the challenging yet rewarding world of watercolor painting, guided by Elizabeth Klanac, assistant librarian and art enthusiast.

This monthly event is not just about painting; it’s a vibrant community gathering where attendees can unleash their artistic potential and socialize. “A lot of the women come in here and they have no experience; it’s how we all start,” Klanac shared. The class fosters a supportive environment, encouraging creativity and collaboration among participants who often bring various backgrounds to the table.

Why This Matters Now: As people seek new ways to express themselves and connect with others, the Watercolor Wednesdays class offers a much-needed outlet for creativity and friendship. Many attendees have formed lasting connections since the class began over a year ago, highlighting the social benefits alongside the artistic ones.

Klanac emphasizes that watercolor painting can be intimidating, but she aims to eliminate that fear. “The white paper is so intimidating, and I want them to be inspired by what appeals to them; there’s no wrong way to paint.” This philosophy resonates with those who attend, as they experiment with colors and techniques, resulting in unique artworks reflecting their personal inspirations.

Participants have the freedom to explore various themes, from seasonal landscapes to imaginative creatures, making each session a new adventure. “I love it, I want them to be creative,” Klanac added, further stressing the importance of thinking outside the box.

All materials are provided, making the class accessible for everyone, regardless of skill level. This welcoming approach has attracted both seasoned artists and complete novices eager to try something new. Interested individuals are encouraged to join upcoming sessions, as no prior experience is necessary.
