UPDATE: A new furry family member is making waves in The Canyons neighborhood of Colorado! Ava Lee and her boyfriend Larry have welcomed Molson, a 2-year-old black German shepherd mix, into their home, transforming their lives one paw at a time.
Just adopted from Humane Colorado’s Buddy Center in Castle Rock, Molson was one of eight puppies born to a purebred German shepherd mother. Shelter staff speculate he may also carry some Labrador retriever traits, evident in his floppy ears and friendly demeanor. Molson’s journey to a loving home follows a difficult start, but he has quickly adapted thanks to the devoted care of Ava and Larry.
The couple previously owned a 6-year-old German shepherd mix named Guinness and were initially uncertain about adding another dog. Larry was hesitant but ultimately fell for Molson’s charm, describing him as “beautiful.” Their unique tradition of naming dogs after their favorite beers, with Guinness and now Molson, adds a playful twist to their family dynamic.
Molson’s personality shines as he enjoys daily walks on neighborhood trails and outdoor adventures. With a state parks pass in hand, the couple frequently visits Cherry Creek State Park, which boasts over 100 acres of off-leash space for Molson to explore. Whether swimming, chasing rabbits, or observing his surroundings, Molson proves to be a wonderful companion.
“He paws at me when he’s ready to walk or when it’s snack time,” Ava shares, highlighting Molson’s affectionate yet playful nature. His physical traits—large erect ears, a gently sloping back, and distinctive solid black coat—set him apart from typical German shepherds.
