BREAKING: Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing has been injured and is awaiting further evaluation after suffering a right lower leg contusion during Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. The injury occurred in the top of the sixth inning when Rushing fouled a pitch from Orioles pitcher Kade Strowd directly into his leg.
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Rushing was in considerable pain after the incident, which led to him being replaced by pinch-hitter Alex Call followed by catcher Ben Rortvedt. Rushing was seen using crutches in the clubhouse shortly after the game, indicating the severity of the injury.
“It got him pretty good,” Roberts stated. Fortunately, initial X-rays returned negative, but Rushing is scheduled for a CT scan tomorrow morning to gain further insight into the injury. “He’s pretty banged up right now. Until we know more, obviously, he’s not going to be in there tomorrow. I guess it’s adding him to the day-to-day list,” Roberts added.
This latest injury comes as a troubling blow for the Dodgers, who are already without starting catcher Will Smith due to a right hand contusion. With Rushing sidelined, Rortvedt is set to take over catching duties for Saturday’s game, and the club is expected to call up another catcher to bolster their lineup.
Fans are eagerly awaiting updates on Rushing’s condition as the team prepares for the next game. The Dodgers face a crucial stretch in the season, and injuries could impact their playoff aspirations. Stay tuned for further developments as this story unfolds.
