URGENT UPDATE: Detroit police have successfully apprehended kidnapping suspects following a dramatic traffic stop near Belle Isle on October 17. The incident unfolded around 12 p.m. when officers responded to a kidnapping report in the 14500 block of Trinity Street.
Officials confirmed that the victims, a mother in her 40s and her daughter in her 20s, were taken at gunpoint. Fortunately, both women managed to escape their captors and were recovered safely near the site of the incident shortly thereafter.
As the day progressed, police received reports of a possible body dumping near Lakeside Street on the east end of Belle Isle around 2:30 p.m.. According to a post from Michigan State Police on X, officers observed a suspicious vehicle—a silver Ford Focus—exiting the island.
Law enforcement swiftly initiated a traffic stop on Jefferson Avenue, where they confirmed the license plate matched that of the suspected vehicle. Detroit Police then arrived on the scene, taking both the vehicle and its occupants into custody.
