CU Buffs O-line Shows Promise Amidst Season-Opening Loss

UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes football team faces a critical moment following their season-opening loss to Georgia Tech. As they prepare for a home matchup against Delaware on September 15, 2023, the spotlight is on the offensive line, which showed promising signs despite the defeat.

In a game that exposed multiple deficiencies, the Buffs’ offensive line emerged as a bright spot. Led by Jordan Seaton, the unit effectively protected new quarterback Kaidon Salter, allowing him to be sacked just once on 28 pass attempts. This statistic stands out, especially considering the physical challenge posed by Georgia Tech’s defense.

The running game also demonstrated potential. Micah Welch and Simeon Price combined for a remarkable average of 5.9 yards per carry, suggesting that the Buffs could have leveraged their ground game more effectively. Colorado’s offensive line, featuring Seaton at left tackle and four other key players, passed their initial test with commendable performance.

While Coach Deion Sanders acknowledged the disappointment from the opening loss, he emphasized the importance of moving forward. “The football season doesn’t stop, and opportunity knocks for the Buffs,” he stated during the postgame press conference. The upcoming match against Delaware presents a chance for redemption, as the Blue Hens transition to the FBS level this season.

The Buffs will enter a favorable stretch of their schedule following the Delaware game, with matchups against Houston, Wyoming, and BYU looming ahead. Each game is crucial for Colorado if they aim to stay competitive in the Big 12 conference. A strong performance this week could set the tone for the rest of the season.

However, the Buffs also face challenges in their game management and play-calling. During the final drives against Georgia Tech, critical decisions regarding timeout usage and offensive strategy raised eyebrows. With the game tied and less than six minutes remaining, the Buffs opted for a series of passing plays rather than capitalizing on their effective running game, which could have shifted momentum in their favor.

As the Buffs gear up for their home opener, fans remain hopeful that the offensive line’s progress will translate into a more comprehensive team performance. The urgency is palpable as Colorado seeks to bounce back and secure their first victory of the season against Delaware.

Stay tuned for updates as the CU Buffaloes prepare for what is sure to be an exciting showdown this Friday.
